List of mini-symposia

MS1 - Engineering Augmented by data, learning and AI

Emmanuel Baranger (CNRS), Sophie Sieg-Zieba (CETIM)

This mini-symposium will be an opportunity to take stock of the role of data in the mechanics of structures and materials. What are the data and their information content? How to use them in models, in digital twins? What role for AI and learning? Applications of SHM, DDDAS, model reduction, design... are welcome. Databases open to the community may also be highlighted. 

MS2 - Biomechanics of sport: performance support tools Unfortunately, due to a lack of contributions, this MS cannot be maintained.

Performance analysis and improvement tools are essential in sport because the level of the various competitions is such that the gap between a victory and a defeat is now played out in hundredths or even thousandths from a point of view relative. For the past ten years, many federations or clubs have set up research units using digital performance analysis tools. Whether optimizing a gesture or equipment, these tools today use all the components of structural calculation methodologies (3D avatar, complex models of material behavior, solid and fluid digital simulations, AI, etc. ..). This session is dedicated to the presentation of these approaches in the context of competitive sport or recreational sport with the objective of improving performance or reducing the risk of injury.


MS3 - Numerical simulation and Data science in automotive mechanics

Electrification and future mobility challenges are profoundly transforming the automotive sector. To support this change, engineering activities are at the forefront and are increasingly relying on numerical methods. This mini symposium will focus on the one hand on improving the physical representativeness of models (simulation of materials and assemblies, for crash, fatigue, vibration, etc. and changes in loads related to new architectures, electrification and new uses; on the other hand, the growing complexity of the product and the need to design faster and more efficiently, lead us to use innovative techniques (model reduction, artificial intelligence, etc.) which intelligently mix digital and physical: this theme will constitute the second part of the mini-symposium.


MS4 - Numerical, mathematical and physical approaches to multi-scale problems: from discrete to continuous

Aziz Hamdouni (La Rochelle University), Mejdi Azaiez (Bordeaux INP), Marianne Beringhier (ISAE-ENSMA), Virginie Ehrlacher (Ecole des Ponts ParisTech), Sylvain Patinet (ESPCI)

This mini-symposium is a meeting between three disciplines: mathematics, mechanics and physics, and will focus on a theme where there is strong interaction between these three disciplines. The preferred theme for this mini-symposium is multi-scale problems, from discrete to continuous. A number of topics fall within this theme: 

- ab-initio calculations,
- statistical physics
- molecular dynamics for solid and fluid mechanics,
- kinetic Monte Carlo,
- etc.

These topics will be covered from a numerical point of view, with physical and mathematical foundations and applications in mechanics. The mini-symposium will also cover specific methods of physics-preserving integrators such as geometric integrators (e.g. symplectic integrators).

MS5 - Bio-sourced materials and structures Unfortunately, due to a lack of contributions, this MS cannot be maintained.

Biosourced materials are part of the solutions to meet the many challenges of construction: renewable carbon storage, light structures, structural materials with low thermal conductivity, contribution of hygroscopicity to summer comfort... The diversity of available solutions and imaginable, from solid wood directly produced by trees to the great diversity of manufactured materials (source of biomass, scale of heterogeneity, choice of binder, proportion of phases, etc.) is a vast field of exploration conducive to the use numerical approaches. This concerns mechanistic modeling (prediction of properties by change of scale, simulation of materials in use, consideration of couplings, etc.), data analysis (images, in-situ sensors, experimental plans, etc.). .) and hybrid approaches. This session is dedicated to the presentation of these numerical and digital approaches on the many aspects necessary for a global vision of the challenges of biosourced materials in construction (structural properties, heat transfer, humidity transfer, carbon footprint , sustainability, etc. with the objective of optimal use of the available resource.
